RTDC has been notified as the nodal agency for implementation of Railway Projects within Himachal Pradesh (vide Principal Secretary (Transport) notification no. TPT-A(1)-6/2019 dated 10/07/2019).


Bhanupali-Bilapsur-Beri New Broad Gauge, Rail Line
Sanctioned in 2008-09, the Bhanupali-Bilapsur-Beri Rail Line from Bhanopali (near Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar, Punjab) to Beri (Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh) will be 63.1 km long with 49.2 km stretch in Himachal Pradesh and 13.9 km in Punjab.

The total project cost is Rs. 2,967 crore, with 25% state-share and 75% GoI-share. The Government of Himachal Pradesh has released Rs. 349.58 to Railway/RVNL as state share. So far, cumulative expenditure to the tune of Rs. 457.31 has been incurred on this project.

The land for the project is being acquired through the process of negotiation as per the notification of the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The compensation for about 95% of the land required for a stretch of up to 20 km has been carried out by SDM-cum-LAO, Bilaspur. Negotiations for acquiring land for the remaining portion of the rail line are in progress.


Chandigarh-Baddi New Broad Gauge Line
To connect Baddi, the industrial hub of the state to Chandigarh UT, the Chandigarh-Baddi Broad Gauge Line Project was sanctioned in 2007-08. The Ministry of Railway, Government of India, has notified this railway line as a Special Railway Project vide notification dated 6th notification.

The rail line will be 27.95 km long, with a 3.055 km stretch in Himachal Pradesh, and the remaining 24.89 km in Haryana. The total cost of the project is Rs. 1672.70 crore, with 50% state share and 50% GoI share. The Government of Himachal Pradesh has so far released Rs. 47 crore to Railway/RVNL as state share. The Indian Railways has so far incurred an expenditure of Rs. 187.64 crore on the project.

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Solan has been nominated as Arbitrator and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Nalagarh as the competent authority for land acquisition by the Principal Secretary (Transport) vide letter dated 20.08.2019. The acquisition of land for the project in Himachal Pradesh is in progress.


Una – Hamirpur New Broad Gauge Line
Sanctioned in 2017-18, Una-Hamirpur New BG Line is 54.1 km long. The total cost of the project is Rs. 5,821.47 crore as per DPR, with a 7.37% rate of return. The total expenditure on land acquisition is Rs. 832.49 crore.

The Government of India desired the Government of Himachal Pradesh to bear 50% cost of the project (approx. 2910.735 crores). The Government of Himachal Pradesh has not agreed to share 50% cost of the project.


Nangal Dam- Talwara New Broad Gauge Line:
Sanctioned in 1981-82, Nangal Dam- Talwara New Broad Gauge Line Project is estimated to cost Rs. 2,100 crore with 100% Government of India share. The rail line is 83.74 km long, with 62 km stretch in Himachal and the rest in Punjab.

The work on 60 km track has been completed already and opened for traffic up to Amb-Andaura; the alignment has been inspected up to Daulatpur Chowk in Himachal Pradesh.
